Chicago, Skokie, Evanston, and other Suburban Libraries
You can access print and electronic materials, as well as databases with a public library card. Librarians can assist students in obtaining a public library card.
For the Chicago Public Library, with a proper state ID and proof of residency (bill, mail with recent postmark), you can apply for a library card. (For out-of-state students, you should provide a letter from the administrative office attesting that you live in the city and your student ID to get a library card.) For more details about getting a library card, check out CPL’s How Do I Get a Library Card?. Chicago and suburban libraries (except for Skokie Public Library) have reciprocal policies. From the Chicago Public Library website, you can keep track of the books you have out, put additional materials on hold, download electronic resources, and conduct research in their databases. HTC has a reciprocal agreement with Loyola, which entitles you to take out books and do research at the Loyola University Library. Go to the circulation desk and request an application for a Loyola card. You must have a current and valid photo ID from HTC to be admitted. (These policies are explained in detail in Loyola’s Access and Usage Policies.) You can also access the library catalog and find materials in the collection. You can have the call number of the materials you find texted to you for easy access.

Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies
HTC has areciprocal borrowing arrangement with Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies. You must have a current and valid photo ID from HTC to borrow resources from the Asher Library. You can access the Asher Library catalog and find materials in their collection. You can also have materials sent through interlibrary loan, either through phone or email.
